Sustainable Seed Gifting

Our Sustainable Seed Gifting range uses Whiteface Dartmoor sheep wool to create a range of sustainable home-grown British gardening products.

Indigenous to Dartmoor, Whiteface sheep have been grazing the land since Saxon times. Their wool is naturally strong and incredibly durable due to the thickness of its fibres.

The wool fibres are combed (tops) spun and twisted to ensure maximum strength.

Using rare breed Whiteface Dartmoor wool in this way also helps to promote and protect one of Britain’s ancient breeds of sheep.

The Whiteface Dartmoor sheep

The Whiteface Dartmoor sheep is one of Britain’s most ancient of breeds. The original ‘easy-care’ sheep; perfect pure-bred or as an outstanding crossing breed.

Indigenous to Dartmoor, and well adapted to its upland pastures and moors, they are as much part of its landscape as are the tors, heath and hill ponies. The breed originated here and remains largely to this day restricted to Dartmoor.

The modern Whiteface Dartmoor is the descendant of the heath sheep that lived on Dartmoor in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The breed was actually developed to thrive in the inhospitable conditions and up until the mid twentieth century was very popular on both Exmoor and Dartmoor.

The Whiteface Dartmoor, renowned for exceptional mothering instinct and ease of lambing, produce high quality meat, wool and beautiful long-curled skins.

The Whiteface Dartmoor is an important part of Devon and Britain’s heritage.
