Blue Diamond will also enter this plant, in collaboration with the agent of the breeder, Plantipp, into the RHS Chelsea New Plant Awards.
What makes this Hydrangea so special?
This wonderful plant is capable of carpeting under feature plants like Japanese maples or a drift at the front of a border. It will also be a favourite in pots and containers due to its compact habit. The Blue Diamond Chelsea exhibit will feature the very first ones to be seen in the U.K. this year and it will be available to buy in all Blue Diamond Garden Centres from mid-July.
Hydrangea, Groundbreaker® Blush can grow to a height of 30cm and a spread of 60cm. Its naturally mounding shape, vigorous branching, and outward-reaching stems create a neat, cascading form. A profusion of conical clusters of four-petalled blooms transitions from pristine white to deep pink, offering season-long visual impact in gardens and landscapes. They smother the neat mound of small, delicate leaves throughout summer and into autumn, giving over 100 days of blooms!
This easy to maintain hydrangea, is also bred to cope well with climate change, especially colder winters and hotter summer months. Its ground covering habit, means it retains moist whilst also providing a natural habitat for wildlife to benefit from.
Hydrangea, Groundbreaker® BlushTM thrives in a well-drained, fertile soil in full sun or part shade, especially with 6-8 hours of sun. Water regularly, especially in dry periods, to establish strong roots. Prune in early spring to encourage fresh growth and abundant flowering. This low maintenance plant naturally forms a neat, spreading mound and is perfect for covering large areas but is also ideal for planting in pots, window boxes and containers, making it a most versatile plant for any size of garden. Apply mulch to retain moisture and protect roots. Feed with a balanced fertilizer in spring for optimal growth. Hardy and resilient, ‘Groundbreaker’ is perfect for adding elegance to any garden border with minimal effort.
