FAQs
Q: Do I need a specific Wi-Fi for the feeder to operate?
A: The FeatherSnap seed feeder operates on regular Wi-Fi with a 2.4GHz bandwidth.
Q: Is the paid subscription mandatory to use the feeder?
A: No, the feeder works without the paid subscription. You can view and download your snaps and you will also have access to the live feed.
Q: What is ‘Bird Book’?
A: The Bird Book is your library, so to speak. You can save your snaps here and find information on species such as seed preferences and fun facts.
Q: How does the AI feature work and what does it do?
A: The AI feature recognizes the birds visiting your feeder and it will be able to tell you the species, which you can then collect in your bird book. Our AI is trained by our in-house ornithologist, Maria, who has worked on region specific bird species lists.
Q: What is Snap Rush Mode?
A: This is a feature included in the paid subscription which will allow you to receive more snaps per day. It will retake pictures every minute vs. every 5 minutes without the subscription.
Q: How often do I need to charge the battery?
A: The FeatherSnap feeder is powered by a solar panel which is situated on both slopes of the roof. The operational length is subject to the amount of sun, placement of feeder and number of snaps. But, in general it will last several weeks to months.
Q: How far away from my internet router or AP can I place the feeder?
A: This depends on the strength of your Wi-Fi connection and the build of your house, e.g. stone walls or wood. In general, we have not seen any issues with 10 to 15 m distance.
Q: How does the paid subscription work?
A: You can sign up monthly for the paid features and cancel at any time. You can also opt for an annual plan with a discount.
Q: Why do I need a 2.5 GHz Wi-Fi and how do I install this?
A: Smart devices are set to work on the 2.4 GHz frequency and will not connect and work on 5GHz. Even though 2.4 GHz carries less information, it has better range than the 5 GHz frequency band. Your router has a configuration page where the user can change and alter settings, wifi name and password. You can also log in and set up a dedicated 2,4GHz network to differentiate this from the 5GHz. You can also set your own name and password for each band. The login information will normally be printed on a label on the router.
