The National Trust's Sky Gardening Challenge
5th August 2024Blue Diamond Garden Centres supported the National Trust's first-ever Sky Gardening challenge by providing the prizes for the four winners; They each received a £150 voucher, a trowel and a pair of secateurs.
Over 100 residents of five neighbourhoods across Greater Manchester signed up to the competition. Its aim was to encourage people to 'green up' their balconies and window boxes with to goal of improving people's connection to nature.
The National Trust provided free seeds, peat-free compost, workshop access and plenty of advice for people who signed up in April and May, to help kick-start their gardening journey.
Shortlisted contestants invited a special panel of judges into their homes to share their gardening projects - from there, the four winners were chosen:
- Jo Magee in the ‘Celebrate Cultural Heritage’ category.
- Dean Jackson in the ‘In the Shade’ category.
- Lauren Sheasby in the ‘Urban Farming’ category.
- Jack Selman in the ‘Wild about Wildlife’ category.
